The love/hate relationship with the BURPIE!

May 17, 2010 Monday night boot camp:

Let me just begin by saying that I LOVED this class. I walked away (barely!) feeling like I got a really great workout. This is the last week of my first boot camp and I am hooked! Tonight's class began with the instructor, Angie, handing us a piece of paper with "300" at the top followed by a list of different kinds of leg exercises. We basically did 20 to 40 reps on each exercise until we had reached a total of 300 reps! These exercises worked your quads, glutes, hamstrings, thighs, etc. You could choose to use hand weights during most of the exercises if you wanted. I found myself starting with 5 lb weights and then quickly changing to my 3 lb weights and then to no weights at all! Wow! Was a little daunting at first but once you got going it went by relatively fast. We were able to work at our own pace so you didn't feel like you had to compromise your form to keep up. By the end, sweat was dripping profusely into my eyeballs. This is when I know I'm getting a really good workout.

I would like to take the time to state how much I despise the exercise called a Burpie. First of all, who even came up with the name of this exercise? Dr. Oz was doing these burpies on his show a couple of weeks ago so this is not just a boot camp term! Anyway, I probably despise them so much because I have a really hard time doing them! Burpies are going on my own personal list of exercise improvements that need to be made!

A little birdie told me that I am going to get the cardio I asked for more of at this Wed. night's boot camp. I better be careful about what I ask for because I'm sure this will be a killer! Am looking forward to what is in store for us on Wed. night!
