A little about me, my name is not important but lets call me Meredith (Im watching the Today Show)...I am mid thirties and am finding for the first time in my life that everyone was right...one day I wouldnt be able to eat whatever I want, and I would have to be proactive towards my body. For the first time, clothes are actually not fitting...and the dryer is not to blame. I will be honest, working out makes me nervous....but I know I have to do it.
My first day, for someone who doesn't sleep very well, I was actually fast asleep when my alarm went off at 5am. I instantly started to get nervous! But, I knew I made a commitment to be there so I got dressed (ironically I have an entire dresser drawer of work out clothes), grabbed my mat, chugged more water and off I went. Note to self, it may be a little easier to go into this venture with a buddy, as you will be more likely to show if you know something is waiting for you.
I pull up to Temple Bethel and is greeted by Jen. Jennifer is nice and welcoming and took most of my nervousness out with one conversation. I laid my mat down and went to the gym to borrow some weights.
As I was sitting there, I watched the ladies file in....Jennifer had said that some of the people today were also taking the class for the first time, so I wondered if they were nervous like me. What was I getting myself into??
We began some warm up exercises and I noticed thankfully that noone was concerned one iota of what I am doing. That was a huge relief! As we warmed up and moved on to some cardio, Jennifer gently corrected any of us that were not quite doing the exercise correctly. I have to touch on this for a second. I have been in yoga classes where I have been belittled in front of the entire class that I wasnt doing the exercise correctly. Those sorts of situations attributes to a lot of the anxiety most of us feels when we exercise.
From some light cardio started the obstacle course...I am assured that this will change every day...scissor runs, light hurdles...some zig zags...a really nice way to get your heart moving. Today we did arms and some core work. I have to be honest, the hour flew by. We are encouraged to go at our own pace, and by the end of the class I felt such a sense of "I did it!!" I met some of the girls that were in my class and they were very nice and were very helpful. They were more than willing to share their experience with me and it gave me a lot of encouragement that I could actually pull this off! I am looking forward to the next three weeks and especially the good its gonna do for my body!! I know just to be active is healthy, but some pound and inch loss definitely will not hurt! I spent the rest of the day, a little sore which was to be expected but I cant explain how my mood and my energy was at a peak all day, it was amazing! You can take this class 3 or 4 or 5 days a week! Let me know if you have any questions, and I look forward to the journey that I am about to take in my first Ormond Boot Camp session.
