One of our new campers has volunteered to share her experiences with Ormond Adventure Boot Camp and take you on her journey. Cheer her on and post your own experiences along the way.

Well, I just made it through my first ever Boot Camp! Going in, I was nervous. Nervous I wouldn’t be able to finish the whole hour. Nervous I wouldn’t be able to keep up, or even do any of the exercises. Nervous I would be so sore afterwards that I wouldn’t be able to function like a normal person. (I’ll let you know how this last part works out!) But, I surprised myself! I didn’t give up! And I’m proud of myself! Don’t get me wrong, it was HARD!! Boot Camp is no joke! But I definitely liked the challenge.

After class, Jennifer measured my body fat, gave me an eating plan, and instructed me to keep a food journal. My body fat number is high: 36%! I look forward to watching that number decrease, for sure! I made sure to weigh this morning so I’d have a good starting number, although Jennifer told me to try not to go by the number on the scale. That may be my biggest challenge yet! I’m used to weighing every morning, but will try to weigh only once a week…

Now a little background about me: I’ve never stuck with an exercise plan. And I’ve needed to. I was almost 11 pounds at birth and starting packing it on from there. Finally, almost two years ago, at 301 lbs., I decided to undergo Gastric Bypass surgery. I’ve lost 104 lbs., but recently started to gain. I’ve gained back 17 lbs. and I’m terrified. So, when my friend Angie told me about Ormond Adventure Boot Camp, I got excited. I desperately want, no NEED, to find something I enjoy doing that will help me maintain my new healthier lifestyle.

My second night of Boot Camp went fairly well. Kelli was leading us through the “board”, which is a list of exercises on a dry-erase board that you go through basically at your own pace, which for me, was SLOW. I’m still getting used to this working out thing! There are some things I had a really hard time doing. For example, Burpees. These were designed by someone who hates me, I’m sure of it! I think I did maybe 5…barely.

I’m still sore from Monday night, but it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be working through it with sore muscles. I mean, my legs HURT! But, I have two Boot Camps under my belt, which for me is something of an accomplishment! Did I mention my legs hurt? You know, I really like that we did something completely different tonight than we did Monday night. Boot Camp is definitely not boring. I like not knowing what to expect. Although I do know I can expect sore legs and other body parts!

Tonight’s workout with Jennifer was all about upper body. Shoulders and arms…not my strongest body parts!! When I say I have no upper body strength, I’m not kidding. When I do a “girly” push-up, I can barely lower myself. So, needless to say, I need as much upper body work as I can get, but I’m going to hate every minute of it! This being said, I actually did not hate it! We did a circuit that consisted of a bunch of different exercises. By the time I wanted to cry because my arms were burning, it was time to switch to a different station. This is my favorite thing about Boot Camp. You don’t do one particular exercise for what seems like an eternity. There’s always a light at the end of the tunnel. This helps me make it though. In fact, the hour really goes by fast. And it seems crazy to me, but even after only three nights of Boot Camp, I already feel like I’m making progress. Small progress, but progress nonetheless.

I weighed this morning and have maintained since last week. I tried not to weigh during the week but I did anyway. I gained a couple of pounds during the week but then went back to my starting weight this morning. I’m ok with that, though. Rome was not built in a day!

Well, yesterday was my two-year Gastric Bypass surgery anniversary. It’s hard to believe it’s been that long. It’s really hard to believe it’s taken that long to find something I like as much as I like Boot Camp. I’m so glad I started this journey!

It’s been raining all day but we did our workout outside. It was wet and messy. And I was tired. But I made it through again. I’m so proud of myself. Kelli had us doing a lot of cardio tonight, which I have to admit I haven’t been great about keeping up with during the week. Jennifer has given me an interval plan to do on my nights off from Boot Camp so I will start incorporating that into my week. The food journal Jennifer asked me to start has been a struggle. It’s so difficult for me. I can come up with all kinds of excuses, but the fact is, I just need to do it. I’ve made the commitment to coming to Boot Camp. I need to start committing to the whole program. That is my goal for the coming week: More days of cardio and a food journal every day. Wish me luck!
